Quick Recap of the Week
Stocks had mixed results during the holiday-shortened week. The Dow fell while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq had very small gains. Small-cap stocks had a more significant rally.
Economic Data
ISM Manufacturing and factory orders were better-than-expected. Chicago PMI, consumer confidence, ISM Services and construction spending came in below their forecasts.
The big news was employment data on Friday. Nonfarm payrolls were far below their expected number. The poor data caused bonds and gold to spike, while the major stock indices fell. They recovered most of their losses by the end of the day, however.
Based on the employment numbers, the odds of either a June or July Fed rate hike fell sharply.
TSP Funds
The S Fund had the largest gain of 1.06%. The F Fund advanced by 0.68% thanks to the poor jobs data. The I Fund moved up by 0.18% while the C Fund gained 0.04%.
