Newsletter 9/16/16

Recap of the Week
Stocks moved up slightly last week. Speculation about next week’s Federal Reserve meeting was the main driver. The odds of a September interest rate hike fell to 15% in the futures market. Traders believe poor economic data will keep the Fed from raising rates. Most stock indices rose slightly, with the exception of the Nasdaq. It moved up over 2%.

Economic Data
Initial jobless claims and Philadelphia Fed business outlook came in better-than-expected. Most data releases were negative, however. Retail sales, industrial production, consumer sentiment and the Empire State manufacturing study were worse-than-expected.

TSP Funds
The C Fund led the way with a 0.60% return. The S Fund gained 0.23%. The F Fund fell by 0.11%. The I Fund had the only significant loss. It declined by 1.64%.
